Dr. Leeman-Markowski received a combined MD/MA degree from Washington University, completing her Master's degree in the Neuroimaging Laboratory.  This was followed by residency in Neurology at Washington University.  Her interest in the cognitive aspects of epilepsy led to a two-year Epilepsy/EEG fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by a three-year clinical and research Cognitive Neurology fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.  She also completed the Scholars in Clinical Science Program (SCSP), a two-year Master’s degree program in Clinical Research at Harvard Medical School. 

Upon completion of fellowship training, she joined the faculty at Emory University, where she directed the Emory University Hospital Epilepsy Monitoring Unit and the Atlanta VA Epilepsy Unit.  Her research studies, investigating the mechanisms of and treatments for cognitive dysfunction in the setting of epilepsy, have been funded by federal, foundation, and industry grants.
